Let me enlighten you;
This word comes from English dialect geek, geck: fool, freak; from Low German geck, from Middle Low German. The root geck still survives in Dutch and Afrikaans gek: crazy, as well as some German dialects, and in the Alsatian word Gickeleshut: geek’s hat, used in carnivals. Bust that one out the next time you find yourself drowning in an awkward silence, I dare you!
The dictionary definition is…
An unfashionable or socially inept person.
Or..
A person with an eccentric devotion to a particular interest: “a computer geek”. (That’s me)
Mildly offensive, but good to know I suppose, for the record, I like to think that I’m in the geek sheek category, and it’s people like those in the slideshow below that let us all down!
